Carolina Medical Weight Management, PA

Is proud to start addressing the problems that children have with their weight.

Our new young peoples diet program!

Obese and overweight children are getting to be more and more common in our modern society. There are numerous causes for this trend and so there is no one solution that would suite every child. It is important that, whatever we do is something that will not only help but will set them up for a more healthy approach to their future. A child's diet cannot be seperated from the diet of those around her/him but they have to be able to take some personal control of improving their health.

No medications or special foods.

The emphasis on the program is personal development and family growth and understanding in what the patient needs to reach her/his weight loss goals. We want to give the person a strong foundation for life long development.

The initial visit will be for about 1 hour and will consist of:

  • Initial evaluation
  • Discussion and setting realistic goals
  • Describing the roles of the patient and the family
  • Setting up agreements
  • Initial understanding of the major dietary nutrients
  • Setting up the new meal plan
  • examining exercise and needs
  • Assigning tasks
  • Setting up homework and the next meeting.

Initial visits should include all the caretakers who have a responsibility in prepareing or getting meals for the patient.

Follow visits should occur no less often than every two weeks and should only require about 15 to 20 minutes. They will include:

  • Weighing in
  • review of the last two weeks diet efforts and concerns
  • review homework
  • adjust the plan as needed to fit the patient's and family's lifestyle.
  • follow up on exercise improvement
  • Review dietary nutrients
  • assigning new tasks

Over time we will improve the intial diet as it relates to the individual and her/his family. By the time the patient has reached the goals or an appropriate weight, much of the maintainance plan will be formed.

This is only a sketch of what will be done. Each family's approach will be different by necessity.

Initally I will be setting up a group of 10 patients to work out the details of the plan. There will be no charge to these patients for the first 60 days on the program. To participate in this initial group they must fit the following profile:

  1. be 8 to 12 years old
  2. want to lose the weight (not just the parent's desires)
  3. have an involved family who is willing to support and participate in the efforts
  4. be able to meet every other week for about 15 to 30 minutes
  5. be of good health
  6. have a body mass index of 30 to 35 (If you don't know then click here to find out)
  7. be able to read and write.

If you think that you fit this profile then fill out the form located here.(click anywhere on this line).
