How do we help?
Education - learning about the risks and
consequences of being overweight as well as ways which you
can improve your health and diet.
Support - weight loss is often a difficult
undertaking. To achieve positive results you will need personal
support. Most people do not do well with coercion or derision.
Our goal is to help you through both the good and bad times
with positivity, humor, information, and tools that will help
you succeed. To accomplish this we will need to see you frequently
throughout your weight loss.
Diets –
recently there have been many talking about the negatives
of “diets” only to go on to describe a “food
plan.” Instead of dealing with the semantics of weight
loss we offer three basic plans to help you in your quest.
Each person will need to choose a plan that will fit into
her/his individual goals and lifestyle. All of the plans are
based on minimizing fat and carbohydrates while ensuring an
adequate protein intake. During the course of your weight
loss you may need to change from one to another. The programs
are designed to mesh well and allow you to do this with a
minimum of effort. Progression from low carbohydrate, low-fat
to maintainance is managed individually to allow for success.
Health Optimization – improving your
health while you lose your excess pounds is an important aspect
of managed weight loss. It is for this reason that it is crucial
that you are evaluated to determine if there are any health
problems that need to be addressed in your plan. Follow-up
information must be obtained yearly or when felt necessary
by the managing physician.
Behavioral Modification – Learning
the skills and techniques to be able to lose your weight and
keep it off is very difficult. It is critical that time is
taken throughout your course of care to work on this aspect
of your management. There is no single set of rules but you
can, over time, learn what you must do to be successful
Vitamins and Minerals – because it
is important to ensure that appropriate nutrition is maintained
throughout your weight loss, it is wise to supplement the
diet with the appropriate vitamins and minerals that may be
missing or may improve your health. We provide many of these
with the programs.
Exercise and fitness
– Exercise is an important consideration in any weight
loss plan. Contrary to popular press, exercise by itself is
a slow difficult way to lose pounds. This does not decrease
its importance to a complete program. Without ongoing exercise
you will not reach the level of health improvement which most
people seek and maintaining your weight loss will be much
more difficult.
.
Prescription Medication – Only available to
those who are patients at our clinic. -it is often helpful
for patients to be prescribed various medicines for their
weight loss. These medications are not meant to take over
for your personal physicians management of your health but
to provide specific care during your weight loss. These may
include diuretics, potassium, appetite suppressants, etc.
The physician who will decide on appropriate therapy will
review the need for these types of medications with you. Many
of these are also provided with the programs.
